How to Login to Windows XP

Q. My daughter insists she is using the right password for her Acer Aspire laptop but it won't let her log on. She is using Windows XP Media Center edition. Is there way to reset the password or for her to get into Windows?
A. Firstly, check the obvious things, such as putting forth effort to enter your password with the Caps Lock key both on and off in case it was on when the password was entered. If you have used special characters, such as the @ sign, attempt entering the password as if the keyboard layout is set to US English, instead of UK. If none of this works, then you can hold down the F8 key as you laptop begins up and choose to start in Safe Mode. Choose to login as Administrator and you’ll be able to gain access to your files as normal.
