HOW TO: Have Fun With Facebook’s Humorous Language Options

While you can always change your setting into more sensible alternative languages, the site offers a couple of fun linguistic Easter eggs.

You can chose to have Facebook display upside down English, or, for anybody feeling a little salty, in “pirate.” Pirate essentially turns your status into your “plank,” your attachments into “loot” and instead of “share” it offers the option to “blabber t’ yer mates.”

Sadly, anything you mode in the status bar won’t be upside down, or pirate-y. But with the use of some external sites you can achieve the same effect.

TypeUpsideDown.com and UpsideDownText.com are just two examples of sites that is able to flip your text, while the Talk Like a Pirate Day site can help you with your pirate translations.

HOW TO: Pre-Schedule Status Updates

While SocialOomph, Sendible and HootSuite offer the same kind of service, the simplest way to schedule Facebook status updates is through using the easy, free Later Bro service.

Just sign in with Facebook Connect, select your time zone, mode in what it is you’d want to say, set the calendar and clock to when you’d want to say it, as well as presto!

HOW TO: Hide Status Updates From Certain People

Using Facebook’s general privacy settings (find these through hitting “account” on the top right of a Facebook page) you can select whether everyone, just friends or friends of friends can see your status updates. However, there's a way to narrow those options down even further.

You can select specific friend lists to see your status (relevant for work, special interest groups, etc.) or even individual people through name, which is useful for anybody organizing a surprise party.

To take advantage of these options, click the padlock icon just below your “what’s on your mind” box on your wall and a drop down menu should appear. Selecting “customize” will bring up more options like “make this visible to” and “hide from” with the option to make your selection a default.

Your normal PC user likely knows enough about this operating method to navigate it for day to day use but likely never utilize it to its fullest potential and is unaware of its potential in the business world.

What Windows seven Offers

Over the years Windows have evolved through several unique incarnations. Every time a new version is released there's number of improvements, additions, as well as revisions of old applications. Some of these new additions can bring new ease when it comes to operating the systems and other times for novice users can cause major headaches. Windows latest edition, Windows 7, is what Bill Gates called “user-centric” as it offers lots of improvements and additions that older models didn't offer. One particular function thats especially useful for office situations is the DirectAccess function. This function allows for seamless intranet connectivity to other DirectAccess client computers when connected to the internet. This lets users remotely access websites, applications, enterprise shares without having to use VPN (virtual private networks). This also allows for administrators to manage remote computers outside the main office buildings. This can be done even if the remote computer is not connected to a VPN.

For Some it’s a Standard

As one of the large market companies it is no surprise that Microsoft Windows is in widespread usage. While some companies may prefer other operating systems, like Mac, other businesses are giving Windows seven a chance. This increase in sales has been favorable for small business especially. That is not to say that large companies are ignoring this though. It is actually somewhat the opposite as large companies like BMW, T-Mobile, Del Monte Foods were all involved in the early testing of Windows 7. So lots of companies showed interest in testing this new operating method that Microsoft had to turn a number of them down.

Everyone Needs a Hand

With new operating method being put in place it is crucial to have a tech support staff that knows how to troubleshoot problems that may occur. While Windows seven may be what Bill Gates calls “user-centric” he does not state that it is “user-proof.” Even if a method is user friendly it does not mean that it is impervious to user error which can sometimes cause major problems. Also it is important for technical support to be able to explain lots of of the changes that have been put into place with Windows 7. There have been several major changes to Windows seven that lots of older users may not be accustomed to, lots of of them having to do with regular navigation processes. These changes need to do with the elimination of classic start menu interface, taskbar features, Windows Explorer features, as well as more. This may complicate people who are unfamiliar with the new operating system.

Buying Computer Tips

Deciding whether to buy a Mac or a PC should be based on two main points: your budget and whether the computer tips is primarily for business or pleasure. Both kinds of computer Tips are excellent for specific tasks, although if you are planning to go to work and bring your computer with you, you may must consider what kinds of computer Tips your coworkers will need to make it easier to swap files or compare notes. Here a few simple tips on how to choose the right computer Tips for you.

Budget

There’s no debate—Macs are far more expensive than PCs. If cash is a large issue for you, you’ll want to buy a PC.

computer tips of the day

However, Macs aren’t overpriced. Unlike PCs, each computer is created for maximum efficiency in both processing speed and ease of use. While PCs frequently crash and are vulnerable to spyware and viruses, Macs resist most viral attacks and operate at a consistently high standard with virtually no technical issues. If you can afford it, a Mac is an excellent investment which will work for you for years.

Business

While Macs have always been the preferred computer of graphic designers and other creative individuals, for most corporate office work, PCs have lengthy been favored over Macs. For this reason, PCs still dominate in most business settings.

Up until a few years ago, the major software created for business suites, such as the Microsoft Suite, was created chiefly for PCs. However, the popularity of other Apple products such as the iPod and iPad has started to change the way Macs are perceived in the larger corporate world. Most business software now has versions available for both Macs and PCs. Because of their heftier price tag, Macs still have a lengthy way to go in making a dent in the corporate world, although in terms of functionality they perform just as well as a PC.

useful computer tips

Graphically, Macs have richer displays and a Linux based operating method that makes them ideal for manipulating intricate information such as layered graphical displays. Photoshop was initially created for the Mac. If you are purchasing a computer for use in a professionally creative setting, your coworkers will likely also be using Macs.

Programming

Computer programmers are evenly split on whether Macs or PCs make better programming tools. The truth is, it comes down to a matter of personal preference. Macs developed a comprehensive suite of developer tools with their OS 10 which, if used properly, can help you get to the moon. PCs have always been oriented toward programming; in fact, the DOS/Windows interface was developed mainly as a way to stay competitive with the user friendly Mac interface. However, lots of programmers have complained that Macs are slower than PCs when it comes down to executing large amounts of freshly programmed code.

xp computer tips

Personal Use

If you enjoy playing video games in your spare time, purchasing a PC is likely the best choice. This is partly because PCs are easier to hook up to auxiliary equipment such as television sets or other devices. Although USB ports are evenly distributed between Macs and PC, the higher data transfer portals of a Mac don't always adapt easily to most conventional televisions, making it difficult to quickly relay information between the two devices, whereas the higher data transfer portals of a PC are usually very adaptable to auxiliary devices.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to design or develop creative projects in your personal time, Macs are a much better choice. Because Apple has invested so much time in making the user interface incredibly easy to use, spending time creating music or drawing or editing movies becomes less about the computer and more about the activity; you forget you are using a computer, as well as can instead focus on the act of creation. PCs have a more rigid approach; it’s hard to forget that you’re on a computer.

Cloud Computing and the Future of Virtualization

Of course, with the tech community excited about the potential of cloud computer tips, computer memory is going to become less of an issue, with flexibility, mobility, as well as processing speed becoming increasingly important when making purchasing decisions. Mac’s suite of mobile devices are far better adapted to shifting between unique geographical areas while also offering enough functionality to make them viable business tools. However, for now you should buy the computer Tips that best suits your needs, as well as plan on the inevitable: no matter what you buy now, in a few years it will be completely outdated anyway!

Buying a New Laptop Computer – What to look For

After getting a better idea on how you will use your new laptop and which features are most important to you it’s time to dig into the specifics. Some features are standard on most laptops such as a CD/DVD-RW drive. Other components can vary significantly from laptop to laptop.

Buying computer tips

1.  Laptop Weight and Screen Size
A key purchasing factor is laptop size and weight. The screen size and the weight of a portable computer are closely related. The larger the screen size, the larger (heavier) the computer, as well as the heavier the battery to power the larger screen.

Laptop computers come in a wide variety of screen sizes with the most common being 12.1?, 13.3?, 14.1?, 15.4”, 16” and 17?. There can be lots of choices and the models and screen sizes available will vary depending on the manufacturer. The weight of laptop computers can range from a hefty 10-pound desktop replacement class laptop to small ultraportable lightweight laptops that may weigh only three pounds.

Although weight tends to vary proportionately with the screen size, there's some exceptions including ultra lightweight laptops. This class of laptop computer Tips may have a screen as huge as 16” yet still weigh as little as only four pounds. Large ultra lightweight laptops do have tradeoffs which include:

Ultra lightweight laptops tend to have somewhat lower processing power.
Many ultraportables don't include an internal CD/DVD drive.
Cost – larger ultraportables generally cost significantly more than a standard laptop.
If you will be transporting your laptop frequently you may want to avoid a laptop with a 16” or 17? screen size as this size of portable computer won’t feel somewhat so portable. An exception would be a laptop such as the Dell Latitude Z which has a 16” screen and yet weighs only 4.3 lbs. The base price on the Latitude Z begins around $1,850.

For questions on the comparison of laptop and netbook computers, be sure to see my earlier post “Laptop Computers – Netbook Computers – eight Key Differences.”

2.  Computer Performance and CPUs

There was a time when laptops could not match the performance of a desktop computer. That is no longer the case and there's a class of laptops actually known as desktop replacements. A key component in laptop performance is the CPU or central processing unit also known as the “brains” of the computer. The two CPU manufacturers for laptop computers are Intel and AMD.

Intel’s current line of laptop CPUs includes the Core i7 (fastest), i5, i3, as well as Core two Duo. Intel also has several Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) CPU variations that provide extended battery life although with somewhat reduced processing power. The Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs also feature advanced power management capabilities which can significantly extend battery life.

Best computer tips

AMD’s current family of laptop CPUs includes the Phenom II, Athlon II and Turion II. There are earlier, lower performance versions of the Phenom, Athlon and Turion CPUs included in some laptop computers. One benefit of the CPUs from AMD is that they are generally lower cost than Intel’s.

Along with all these unique models there's also variations on the actual speed of the CPU itself. CPU speed is measured in GHz or gigahertz.

A good rule of thumb is to buy at least a dual-core CPU which provides improved performance when multi-tasking and running multiple application programs. Some CPUs offer three or four processing cores which can provide additional performance benefits when running demanding applications. There are also still some laptops in the retail channel with older Intel Core D and Celeron CPUs. Laptops with these CPUs provide lower performance levels that lots of people get undesirable.

Important performance fact to remember: the CPU is only one component in the overall performance of the laptop. The quantity of method memory (RAM), the availability of a graphics processor and the size and speed of the hard disk drive also figure into overall computer Tips and performance. For instance, if you get a laptop Computer tips with a quick CPU with too little RAM the overall laptop performance will suffer.

3.  System Memory or RAM

Most new laptops include at least 2GB of method memory (RAM) and lots of come with 3GB of RAM or more. It is recommended that a new laptop computer have at least 3GB and preferable 4GB or more of RAM. The quantity of RAM or method memory is an important factor in performance. The more installed RAM your laptop has, the more applications you can run at once, as well as the better your computer will perform.

The version of Windows installed on your new laptop will decide how much RAM your computer can effectively use. A 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows seven can efficiently use a maximum of 4GB of RAM. A 64-bit version of Windows seven can use up to eight GB or more. Configuring your laptop with more RAM at the time you buy it is convenient and helps extend the laptop’s useful life.

4.  PC Operating System

All new PC laptops sold at retail stores ship with Microsoft Windows 7. Most of these retail computers have the Home Premium version of Windows seven while lots of business class laptops will have Windows seven Professional pre-installed. Some will have the 32-bit version and some will have the 64-bit version. The 64-bit version will permit the computer to process data in larger chunks. Business laptops generally ship with Windows seven Professional which provides management and networking benefits in an enterprise environment

This difference of 32-bits vs. 64-bits does not result in a significant performance difference today, however it may make more of a difference in the future as more software packages takes advantage of the newer 64-bit technology.

Windows XP Still Available
If you have an unusual need that requires you to run Windows XP as the native operating method on your new laptop you have two options: buy a laptop directly from a manufacturer that still offers XP on some computers (Dell and Lenovo are two that do); or wipe out your copy Windows seven on your new laptop and install Windows XP (ouch!). Do yourself a favor – avoid the nearly ten year old Windows XP and stick with Windows 7.

5.  Cost

Laptops costs can range from $400 to $4,000 or more depending on configuration. As mentioned earlier it is not difficult to purchase $1,500 on a laptop computer tips, however there's also lots of very good laptops that fall in the $600 – $900 range. For a laptop being used in business I would not recommend anything below ~$800 unless you don't plan on using it for more than a couple years. I generally recommend not purchasing the very top end (unless cost is of no concern) but I also recommend not purchasing at the very low end as this can result in unsatisfactory performance over time. latest and awesome computer tips and ticks.

Choosing A Computer Tips

Choosing a computer tips can be as challenging as purchasing a car, as well as frequently the same questions must be asked: what are you purchasing it for, what would you want to be able to do with it, where will you use it? These are important questions to remember for other questions like: should I get a laptop or desktop computer tips, how powerful does it must be, as well as how much RAM and hard drive space do I need? A fair quantity is subjective, but ultimately, work within your budget to get a PC that will do the things you must do, as well as you will be happy.

The debate when searching to buy a computer tips should begin thinking about the general form-factor out of that you could make the most: laptop or desktop.

computer tips and tricks,
It doesn’t end there, but thinking about the answer to that question makes computer shopping that much easier – computer stores can be huge, as well as the variety of computers can be daunting, so this is an easy way to eliminate half of the herd. If you want the computer to be at all portable, whether it’s using it in unique rooms in your house or bringing it along on business trips, then a laptop is a wiser choice. If you want to spec out a permanent space for the computer to include surround sound speakers and a nice huge monitor so you can see a bunch on your screen, as well as don’t mind leaving the computer behind when you move throughout your home, then a desktop is the best choice.

Buying computer tips

Contrary to popular myth, laptop computers can be, in fact, upgradable, however, you must ask that question first before buying; through contrast, desktop computers are widely upgradable. Common upgrades include memory, more powerful CPUs, as well as more hard drive space, so if you have an easily upgradeable method in mind, you can save some cash through purchasing a less powerful computer today, knowing you can purchase a few hundred dollars to upgrade a few parts of it tomorrow when you need that power more. Peripherals, or externally attached accessories such as webcams, printers, scanners, portable storage drives and even music players, are easily installed and swapped around using USB, which stands for Universal Serial Bus and allows for the easy connection of these peripherals to computers. Any new computer, whether Apple or IBM, will come with at least two USB ports, but you may need more depending on how lots of USB peripherals you need to link up. Take a fast count and add at least one spare USB port for something new in the future – USB ports can be added with either a USB hub, which connects four or more USB ports into one on your computer, or more directly with a card of ports that attaches to the computer’s motherboard.

computer tips for beginners

Hard drive space is one area in particular where dropping prices have made it easy to stretch your dollar. five years ago, top-notch systems came with 10 gig drives which cost around $250 – today, you can get 25 times that much for the same price, where 300 gig drives have dropped below $200 each. That means you can store music, videos, games, all on the same hard drive. For sizes, 40 to 60 gig hard drives should be enough for general home use, giving you enough room to store most anything you’ll play with and needing only a little housecleaning once in a while to keep things tidy; 100 gig and higher capacity drives are better suited to people who are either power users who install tons of software and store dozens of gigs of mp3s on their computer, or those who want to play with graphics design or home studio editing of music and videos which both require a good quantity of space. Frankly, at these prices, it usually won’t cost much to get a little more space if you actually think you’ll use it.

Memory, known through techies as RAM, has always been considered the easiest way to boost the performance of your PC with the smallest cost; to better explain this, while you are working and switch between programs, your computer uses the memory (fast) to temporarily store all the data instead of hard drive space (slow through comparison). With newer versions of Windows, the quantity of RAM you’ll must need to run things comfortably has moved to 128 megs to 256 megs, but if you plan on using the larger applications that go along with it, or if you plan on having lots of programs open at the same time, such as internet browsers, text editors, graphics applications, you will must seriously consider 512 megs to one gig of RAM.

computer tips and techniques

Other choices, including speakers, sound cards and video cards are usually tied directly to what work you intend on doing with a PC. If you intend on writing the next really good novel, you likely don’t need a top-notch video card, as well as you’ll need a full stereo sound card if you want to view movies or record home music semi-professionally.

As for brand and operating system, proponents of each may believe they have the best system, but there's pros and cons of each. Basically, Windows systems have wider hardware compatibility than Apple systems; this has a few ramifications. Windows systems need to be compatible with millions of potential combinations of hardware (this motherboard, with that video card, as well as the other sound card, etc) and so as a result require more coding to interwork everything properly, thus may appear bloated; through comparison, Apple computer tips have a far more limited range of hardware choices, which means that the computer can be more efficient with what it’s given and can be used virtually “out of the box”. Linux systems are far more advanced, requiring a fair quantity of knowledge to set up, however, once that’s done, they are considerably more stable and powerful and less susceptible to viruses. Despite that, they are usually not used as desktop PCs and are reserved for servers which feed websites or mail onto the Internet. Read Care fully this Article on Computer tips.

Latest computer tips and trciks. In this post you will get nine free tips on purchasing a new motherboard. What points you should remember before making a choice for motherboard. As you know creating a customized PC is much easier and fulfill your requirements. The most important decisions you will make for your customized PC is which motherboard to buy. Motherboard prices and features vary tremendously so you must consider performance, Prices, as well as features in a new motherboard depending on your need and requirement. Read care fully this article on computer tips.

Tip one : take some time to think about how you will use your system.

Understand what kind of method you are building. Someone with a power meter that requires a serial port will care a bunch more about the peripheral features than the normal user will, while the hard-core gamer will likely focus on the GPU, CPU, as well as chip set while ignoring peripherals and form-factor issues.

Tip two : Selecting the chip set
computer tips and tricks of the day,
Motherboard Buying (computer tips)

If the CPU is the brains of the PC than the Chip set is the spinal cord. Chip set is the single and most important component of motherboard and it directly influence the performance. Chip sets normally employ two unique chips referred to as the northbridge and southbridge.North bridge is responsible for dealing with high-performance devices while less sensitive devices are dealt through southbridge. Northbridge includes the memory controller and graphic controller while southbridge includes networking, storage, audio, general peripherals. Pick chip set first, then the motherboard. The difference is chip sets can be significant but two motherboard with same chip set will be nearly identical in performance.

Tip three : Selecting Memory

Stay with DDR2 memory unless you need the extra bandwidth and performance. A modern desktop PC should have at least 2GB of memory, possibly 4GB for more demanding applications. Most chip sets use DDR2 memory at up to 800 MHz but newer chip sets from Intel may also use DDR3. DDR3 offers more bandwidth and consume less power but its expensive also. Both DDR2 and DD3 uses 240 pins the difference is that the key ( a small gap between the pins) is closer to the center of the DIMM ( the memory module ) for DDR. while it is closer to the edgeof the DDR3 DIMM. Remember : If the memory module doesn’t fit into the slot, don’t force it!

Tip four : Selecting graphic Hardware

Latest computer tips

The graphic processing unit (GPU) is the third most important component of a system, right after the CPU and chip sets. You must consider the cost, performance and upgradability. AN IGP is a fine choice for for users interested in a little multimedia, office work and other lighter workloads.

Tip five : PCI Slot

PCI express comes in two flavors. GEN one and GEN 2. The difference is that Gen two PCI express slot runs at 5GHz twice the speed of past generation. If the price is no object and maximum gaming performance is your goal, your selection is bit different. True multi-GPU support is a your high-end is priced accordingly. The only options for multiple GPUs are SLI and Crossfile. SLI for nvidia and Crossfire for ATI cards. Remember nVidia is the clear performance leader and note that nVidia chip sets and intel’s Shulltrail motherboard.

Tip six : Sound card

AC97 is an older audio standard that has been superseded through HD audio or Azilla. For the dedicated enthusiasts who would benefit from a discrete sound card an = extra PCI-E slot is enough to find.

Tip seven : Networking

A good chip set will always have at least one integrated gigabyte Ethernet port. simply check it before buying.

Latest Buying Computer tips

Tip eight : Associated Peripherals

On the motherboard, the peripherals can include USB 2.0, fireWire, PS/2, serial and parallel ports, as well as a floppy drive. OF those options, USB 2.0 is an absolute necessity and fire Wire can be nice obsolete unless you pretty much specific peripheral device.

Tip nine : Form factor

The final aspect of the motherboard to consider is form factor. latest computer tips and tricks,  Most motherboard uses the ATX form factor, with the microATX design meeting the needs of space conscious user. Read care fully this article on computer tips and tricks.

Internet & Computer Tips

The biggest difference between net access in Europe and in North America used to be that local calls are charged next to the minute in Europe. Best computer tips and tricks,  But ever fewer net users have a local dial-up connection for which they pay for each minute online, as in the “old days.” Most people in Germany now have flat-rate high-speed DSL, as well as German telecom charges have generally come down in recent years. They can even be somewhat low, especially in the late evening or on holidays. Read Care Fully this Article oN Computer Tips.

Once a rare thing in Germany, most German ISPs/telecoms now offer a flat-rate DSL option. But DSL access may not be available in all areas, sometimes even within the same city.

Wi-Fi and High-Speed Access in Germany
Wi-Fi (called W-LAN in German) net access in Germany and Europe is still a bit spotty. Most German business hotels offer Ethernet or wi-fi high-speed net access for either an hourly or a daily charge. For example, the final time I was there, the Kempinski Airport Hotel in Munich charged 20 euros per 24-hour time for unlimited access by its Ethernet (room) or wi-fi (lobby) connections. But a hotel in Munich offered free net access in its rooms, something fairly rare in Germany. Smaller hotels and pensions are more problematic. Sometimes there's problems even getting a dial-up connection (hard-wiring, unique jacks, etc.) It’s wise to ask before booking if you will need net access from your hotel.

Internet Service Providers in Germany
The largest German net service provider is Deutsche Telekom’s T-Online. There are also hundreds of local and regional ISPs in Germany, such as gmx.net, snafu.de, or Web.de (DSL).

T-Online (Deutsche Telekom)
T-Online is the online service of Deutsche Telekom and, such as AOL or MSN, offers its own content as well as net and Web access. See the T-Online Web site (in German) for current information.

AOL Germany
In January 2010 AOL announced it was closing its offices in Germany as segment of a major restructuring, but its online service remains. AOL members in Germany can access AOL by the country-wide number 0-19-14 from anywhere in Germany at the local phone rate, with dialup. Broadband (DSL) connections are also available. > AOL Deutschland

Local and Regional ISPs / Cybercafes

Austria, Germany, as well as Switzerland have all gotten into the net and the Web in a large way. In addition to the “big three” above, each country has an array of local net service providers (ISPs) that offer a variety of services, including e-mail, home pages, as well as Web site hosting. Examples are eTel in Austria and snafu.de in Germany.

Web-based E-mail
With the advent of the “cybercafe” — see the links below — it is now possible to stay online while traveling without a computer. Business people and others have bought into the universal access offered through having a Web-based e-mail account with MSN’s Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, or some other free Web e-mail service. Many firms also provide web-based email for their employees. They can go into a cybercafe (or use a friend’s computer) to access their e-mail and surf the Web. Of course, a Web cafe doesn’t offer this service for free, but the cost is usually very reasonable.

Latest Computer Tips

Mail2Web.com (free) or your own ISP’s Web mail allows you to check your e-mail account on the Web service. It’s a quick and easy way to access mail box from Web browser anywhere you have net access.

Modem Tips

Germany was one of the few countries in the world that once required modem users to register their modems with the telephone company. Because the law was widedly ignored—even through usually law-abiding Germans—and because the law was stupid, it’s no longer necessary to register your modem in Germany. But other problems persist for North Americans used to the standard RJ-11 phone plug and free local phone calls. However, RJ-11 phone plug converters can now be bought in Germany. Just go to a department store or telephone shop (anywhere mobile phones are sold) and ask for a connection cable with the RJ-11 connector for your laptop/notebook modem on one end, as well as the German connector on the other.

Hard-wired connections and unique dial tones are only two of those problems. I highly recommend a phone line tester that comes with plug adapters. It could save your computer! Thankfully, as DSL replaces dial-up, this is less of a problem.

A word of caution for business travelers!
Many German hotels charge high telephone fees (even for local calls)—sometimes up to seven times more than the regular Deutsche Telekom rates! To avoid a nasty surprise later, always check the rates before you go online from your hotel room. The good news: some American hotel chains in Europe, such as Marriott, do have RJ-11 phone plugs in their rooms. Also be wary of digital (ISDN) phone lines that is able to fry your modem!

Some German hotels also offer computer access for business travelers, but usually at a high price. However, during a recent stay in a respected business hotel in Germany, I discovered that the hotel’s sole computer (one, eins!) for public use was kaputt and unavailable at price. It may be wise to bring your own. Read Latest Internet And Computer Tips.

PC Tips To Keep You And Your Online Computer Secure And Problem Free

Hi,
I have been using computer for years, here are some of the maintenance tips to take care of your PC/Computer/Laptop/Server so that it works without problems.
On Software Front:
1. Install an Antivirus – freeware or paid one, lots of them are there. Use virustotal.com service if you want to be almost 100percent sure that the new file being used on your PC is virus free. Also keep your antivirus updated.
2. Install a Firewall – Free or commercial version, which ever you can afford, it will keep your PC safe from outside online attacks from hackers. Also keep the
3. Install Antispyware – Everyone hates being spied and so should your PC too. Better have two antispyware with one active at a time. Here I am referring to spyware that is able to do harm do your PC through monitoring your surfing habits, usernames and passwords, snooping your confidential data on your PC and then sending it all to somebody without your knowledge. Don’t forget to keep your antispyware updated.
4. Install Antitrojanware – Hidden malicious program inside an attractive one to give remote access to someone, grab your password to permit somebody to break in to your computer. Sometimes a single software pack can do most of the things, for example keep viruses, spyware, malware and trojans (hidden harmful codes that get activated on a particular day) away.

5. Install Antikeylogger – No one should come to know what usernames and passwords you typed on your online PC.
6. Install Application Software (browsers, FTP – File Transfer Client, Image editors, Word processors etc.) from reputed sources and not from source as the file being installed can be infected.
7. Don’t use P2P and torrent clients to download illegal stuff from Net. There is something hidden in these files mostly to cause harm to your PC.
8. Be alert and don’t open emails and attachments from unknown persons.
9. Always buy licensed method software which the base for letting other software operate on it.
10. Ensure you have a backup software to take backups of your files. Also have your PC Create System Restore point automatically whenever installing something new. This will help you in coming back to a working computer state in case the new software malfunctions.
11. Defragment your hard disk to improve the rate it provides data from it. Defragmentation arranges the similar data in continuous way on your hard disk so that hard disk reading process doesn’t need to work a bunch browsing for the information to load a program or file etc.
12. Install screen savers or switch off monitor when you are't using it (going for half an hour break with some downloads happening in the background), use optimized setting for hard disk (should become idle when not in use) and other devices available in the CMOS setup. This will increase the life of the respective hardware as they should be used only when needed.
On Hardware Front:
1. Keep your computer clean externally – This will keep insects, flies away. Avoid drinking tea, coffee etc. while working on your PC.
2. Make sure that there's no gaps large enough in your PC for lizards, cockroaches etc. to go inside and piss on your PC electronics
3. Ensure that the interiors of PC are clean, i.e., dust free. If you can do the cleaning yourself do it at normal of once in three months or get it done. The more the dust on the chips etc., the more are the chances of their failure!
4. Ensure computer back is at least three to four inches away from the wall so that its fans can throw out heat. Your computer need to remain cool!
5. All the fans of the computer need to work, use a software provided next to the PC manufacturer to do so. Sometimes a fan thats making noises is likely to be fail soon, get it rectified soon.
6. If the place where the computer is being used is hot (above 25 degree Celsius), use an air conditioner. Don’t use a water cooler as water moisture can short circuit the electronics of PC.
7. Use a cable fixer to route cables properly, they should not hang and obstruct the way of the passers. Oh! it also makes your PC aesthetics good and less dust accumulation in comparison to them lying on the floor.
8. Use UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to protect PC from over voltages and brownouts etc.
9. Use spike busters for the interfaces like Ethernet cable and telephone cables etc. as they can sometimes carry high voltages due to some or other problem. None of the external interface can be trusted for always having a safe voltage, to be directly connected to your PC’s port.
10. Make sure that the power to the PC is right (right earthing with leakage not more than 5V between Neutral and Earth) and provided by good quality of wires, sockets, plugs etc. If these are of bad quality then it can lead to electrical sparks and even fire.
11. Don’t fiddle with your PC components to repair a fault if you don’t know ABC of computer repair. Call somebody who is Expert! I personally know of cases where people not knowing much about repair of PC have messed with their computer thinking that it’s minor problem and can be repaired easily. One of my friend burnt his PC CPU as he forgot to put back heat sink and fan on the CPU, It hardly took 5-10 seconds for CPU to get heated and give smoke. He finally ended in spending about $100 on its repair.

12. Buy quality repair parts and get repair done from professionals. Cheap computer parts can definitely save you cash but can cost you more in the lengthy run.
Buy ergonomically created computer furniture and chair and have a proper posture, take breaks when working for hours continuously.
If you have some other tips to share with me from your experience, let me know as there's still lots of left, have covered only the main ones
Hope that these experienced tips helps some of my friends in keeping their PC healthy and secure online!

How to recover MOST of scratched CD data discs

I learn an old thecnique to how to recover damaged or scratched disks
with some lost of data. In this case i have one borrowed game - MAX PAYNE 2
with a chunck of four mb lost with a scratch in CD1 Install. Here we cover some
special thecniques of how to make a full working CD from the scratched one.

First some tools will be needed:

1. Alcohol 120percent
2. UltraISO
3. Windows XP/2000 (not tested on 95/98/me)
3. Small part of cotton
4. Dry cleaner paper
5. Finally, oil for cooking.

First process - preparing the CD

Get the cotton and drop some water, start cleaning vertically the surface of CD.
Do it three times and dry the water with a part of dry cleaner paper. With a new piece
of cotton, drop some oil for cooking and start to wet the surface such as you are
washing the CD with the oil. Dry carefully now. Some particles of oil will stay on the
microsurface of the scrath. Its okay. Seems the oil helps the laser of the CD/DVD driver
to read the surface again. Sure this will work with small unreadable scratchs - some hard
scratchs loose parts of the surface of the CD where we have data and its lost forever.
But if it is loosed attempt anyway. Whith this tip 80percent of the small scratched CDs coud be
recovered.

Second Step - testing the CD

With Alcohol 120percent make an ISO - image making wizard - and lets see if the app can
read the loosed surface. In my case Alcohol 120percent had recovered 60percent of the data.
This is not enough. Have tryed other appz, they don't recover all the data. But the
CD/DVD driver laser CAN recover all data in this case. the data is still there, what we do?

third process - making the new CD

With the main copy method of windows explorer you can do it. Just make one folder
with the same name of the CD label for future burn reference, as well as copy the CD content
to the folder. When the CD copy process get the scratch, in majority of the cases, its
slow down the reading and will recover ALL loosed data.If not, it just tell you theres
an unreadable sector. In this case your CD is lost. But its not my case, finally
windows explorer got all the data from the scratch and made a copy in the folder.
with the ultraISO, wrote the original CD label, drop the content of the folder and
save as Iso. You can Test the new CD just mounting the iso in the Alcohol 120percent. In my
case i did ISO of the two discs from MAX PAYNE two and tested installing from the mounted
ISO. Works such as a charm. I got the four mb lost again. So, I have burned the CD and now i
have a working copy from the scratched one.

Sounds too bizzarre, but works. Course you can jump the cleaning process and attempt to copy
the content with Windows explorer. But in my case didn't work without oil...

Rename Multiple Files at Once

When you download photos from your digital camera, they frequently have unrecognizable names. You can rename several similar files at once with the following procedure. This also works for renaming other kinds of files.

1.Open the My Pictures folder. (Click Start, as well as then click My Pictures.) Or open another folder containing files which you want to rename.

2.Select the files you want to rename. If the files you want are't adjacent in the file list, press and hold CTRL, as well as then click each item to select it.

3.On the File menu, click Rename.

4.Type the new name, as well as then press ENTER.

All of the files in the series will be named in sequence using the new name you type. For example, if you mode Birthday, the first will be named Birthday and subsequent files in the series will be named Birthday (1), Birthday (2), as well as so on. To specify the starting number for the series, mode the starting number in parentheses after the new file name. The files in the series will be numbered in sequence starting with the number you type. For example, if you mode Birthday (10), the other files will be named Birthday (11), Birthday (12), as well as so on.

Top 10 Password Crackers

#1
Cain and Abel : The top password recovery tool for Windows
UNIX users frequently smugly assert that the best free security tools support their platform first, as well as Windows ports are frequently an afterthought. They are usually right, but Cain and Abel is a glaring exception. This Windows-only password recovery tool handles an enormous variety of tasks. It can recover passwords through sniffing the network, cracking encrypted passwords using Dictionary, Brute-Force and Cryptanalysis attacks, recording VoIP conversations, decoding scrambled passwords, revealing password boxes, uncovering cached passwords and analyzing routing protocols.

#2
John the Ripper : A powerful, flexible, as well as quick multi-platform password hash cracker
John the Ripper is a quick password cracker, currently available for lots of flavors of Unix (11 are officially supported, not counting unique architectures), DOS, Win32, BeOS, as well as OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash kinds which are most commonly found on various Unix flavors, as well as Kerberos AFS and Windows NT/2000/XP LM hashes.

#3
THC Hydra : A Fast network authentication cracker which support lots of services
When you must brute force crack a remote authentication service, Hydra is frequently the tool of choice. It can perform rapid dictionary attacks against more then 30 protocols, including telnet, ftp, http, https, smb, several databases, as well as much more.

#4
Aircrack : The fastest available WEP/WPA cracking tool
Aircrack is a suite of tools for 802.11a/b/g WEP and WPA cracking. It can recover a 40 through 512-bit WEP key once enough encrypted packets have been gathered. It can also attack WPA one or two networks using advanced cryptographic methods or through brute force. The suite includes airodump (an 802.11 packet capture program), aireplay (an 802.11 packet injection program), aircrack (static WEP and WPA-PSK cracking), as well as airdecap (decrypts WEP/WPA capture files).

#5
L0phtcrack : Windows password auditing and recovery application
L0phtCrack, also known as LC5, tries to crack Windows passwords from hashes which it can obtain (given proper access) from stand-alone Windows NT/2000 workstations, networked servers, primary domain controllers, or Active Directory. In some cases it can sniff the hashes off the wire. It also has numerous methods of generating password guesses (dictionary, brute force, etc). LC5 was discontinued through Symantec in 2006, but you can still get the LC5 installer floating around. The free trial only lasts 15 days, as well as Symantec will not sell you a key, so youll either need to cease using it or get a key generator. Since it is no longer maintained, you are likely better off putting forth effort Cain and Abel, John the Ripper, or Ophcrack instead.

#6
Airsnort : 802.11 WEP Encryption Cracking Tool
AirSnort is a wireless LAN (WLAN) tool that recovers encryption keys. It was developed next to the Shmoo Group and operates through passively monitoring transmissions, computing the encryption key when enough packets have been gathered. You may also be interested in the similar Aircrack.

#7
SolarWinds : A plethora of network discovery/monitoring/attack tools
SolarWinds has created and sells dozens of special-purpose tools targeted at systems administrators. Security-related tools include lots of network discovery scanners, an SNMP brute-force cracker, router password decryption, a TCP connection reset program, one of the fastest and easiest router config download/upload applications available and more.

#8
Pwdump : A window password recovery tool
Pwdump is able to extract NTLM and LanMan hashes from a Windows target, regardless of whether Syskey is enabled. It is also capable of displaying password histories if they are available. It outputs the data in L0phtcrack-compatible form, as well as can write to an output file.

#9
RainbowCrack : An Innovative Password Hash Cracker
The RainbowCrack tool is a hash cracker that makes use of a large-scale time-memory trade-off. A traditional brute force cracker tries all possible plaintexts one through one, which can be time consuming for intricate passwords. RainbowCrack uses a time-memory trade-off to do all the cracking-time computation in advance and store the results in so-called "rainbow tables". It does take a lengthy time to precompute the tables but RainbowCrack can be hundreds of times faster than a brute force cracker once the precomputation is finished.

#10
Brutus : A network brute-force authentication cracker
This Windows-only cracker bangs against network services of remote systems putting forth effort to guess passwords through using a dictionary and permutations thereof. It supports HTTP, POP3, FTP, SMB, TELNET, IMAP, NTP, as well as more.
