Video – How to create a shutdown, restart, or logoff shortcut on your desktop

You will be amazed at how much faster you can shutdown your computer by using this trick.
Instead of going to the start menu, choosing shutdown, then waiting for the computer to shut all the programs down, you can create a shortcut on the desktop to do it quickly.
You can create a shutdown, restart, or a logoff icon on your desktop which will work a lot quicker than using the usual buttons in the start menu.
Watch this video tutorial on how to create a shutdown icon on your desktop. And I forgot to mention that you can change the look of the icon by right clicking on the icon and choosing properties, then choosing to change icon.
Notes:
  • to stop the computer from shutting down type shutdown /a into the run box located in the start menu..
  • -f will force everything to close immediately without asking to save anything.
  • shutdown.exe -r Restarts your computer in 30 seconds.
  • shutdown.exe -l This one will logoff your computer back to the welcome screen where you will need to login again.
  • shutdown.exe -s -t 1 Shutsdown your computer in one second. the -t 1 tells it how long to wait. (one second in this case) You can put -t 10 or even -t 1120.
  • shutdown.exe -s -t 15 -c “Goodbye you idiot” This is my favorite code. It will shutdown in 15 seconds and have a message in the box saying “Goodbye you idiot”
The -c “bla bla bla” stands for a comment.

Use Powerpoint slides to create a video in Windows Movie Maker

I make video tutorials for my websites and often people ask me how they can do the same thing. I always say just do it…Turn on your Camstudio or camtasia program and start doing a tutorial. However not everyone has the same subject as me and you cannot always do a screencast tutorial. Therefore I have made this video, showing how to make PowerPoint slides that you can turn into a video with Windows Movie Maker. There are many ways to make videos and this is just one of them.

How to make the slides in powerpoint, ready for Windows Movie Maker?

1. Make the slides that you want to use.
2. Click on the top left icon and a menu will appear.
save powerpoint slides as jpegs
3. Then choose to save as,  Choose other formats.
4. Now you will be asked if you want to save every slide and that’s what you want to do. Save every slide.
5. Make sure you remember where you have saved these files so we can open them in Windows Movie Maker.

How to make a video in Windows Movie Maker with Powerpoint slides:

1. Open Windows Movie Maker.
2. Import the slides that you saved as jpg files by pressing on Pictures and browsing for the files. See the screenshot below.
3. Drag each slide down to the Storyboard at the bottom of the program.
4. Now we need to go to the Timeline viewto stretch the slide so it plays ling enough for us to add audio to.
5. Click the tiny arrow next to storyboard and you will see a drop down arrow.
6. Choose Timeline.
7. Select a slide and drag the end of it to stratch it… An arrow will appear when you do it..
8. Do the same to all of the slides. Some slides might need to be longer than others.

How to add audio to the PowerPoint slides in Windows Movie maker:

This tutorial could go on forever so you will have to watch the video to see how to add the audio to the video…
I have an example video that I have made using this method. It was not easy to try and talk and get the timing right, however this was my first try… Just give it a go..

Find items to buy on Ebay that are for sale in your local area

If you would like to search on Ebay for a bargain item in your local area, Ebay has an option for you to do this. It saves so much time if you can narrow your search down to only include items for sale within driving distance of where you live. For example if you want to buy a car or a caravan from Ebay, the further the item is away form you the higher the price will be to get it to you. You might get a truck to transport a caravan or you might pick it up yourself. Either way, if it was closer it would definitely be cheaper.
The other advantage to finding items on Ebay for sale in your local area is that if they are marked with “pick up only” you might get it even cheaper. Marking an item on Ebay as “pick up only” is an auction killer for people selling items located in smaller towns. For example I live near Woodford Queensland and the population is small. If I wanted to buy something that was pickup only in my local area, there is not much competition in the way of bidding. If you got two people bidding you would be lucky.

How to find items for sale on Ebay in your local area?

1. Go to Ebay and signin to your account.
2. Type in the search box what you are looking for and hit search. I am looking for a caravan as you can see in the screen shot below.
searching for local items on ebay
3. Scroll down the page. In the left menu find the word Distance. Click on it.
4. Press on the little drop down arrow to choose a distance. This is how far you are willing to travel to get your purchased item. In the screhshot below I have chosen to show caravans for sale within 50km of 4514.
search in Ebay - within a distance
5. Then put your postcode in and press the >> button.
Now all the items I see are in my local area and will be easy for me to pick up or cheap to post.
Here is a video showing how to search for an Ebay item within a certain distance.
Notes:
  • I do not need to choose what country to search in as I am already searching on Ebay Australia and I have already narrowed the search results down.
  • If you are trying to save on postage fees then search for items within your state or territory. Once you go over the boundaries the postage and freight costs get expensive.

Calling all Vista users! If you need to edit a picture or photo on your computer it is extremely easy to do. Windows Vista comes with a small program called the Microsoft Gallery viewer. Computer Tips – See Who Is Following You On Twitter

Why would you want to see who is following you on Twitter? This is déjà vu for me as I have written a post about this previously called “How to tell if someone is following you back on Twitter“. Unfortunately Twitter has changed its website and therefore are writing a new article so you can see who is following you on Twitter.
Obviously to follow this tutorial you will need a Twitter account and it must be an active Twitter account. This means that you must have some followers, otherwise what’s the point of seeing who is following you?
If you have collected a few followers like me, and are interested in finding out who they are, follow these steps below. I know there are programs and websites that can show you who is following you on Twitter but this is the good old-fashioned manual way.

Who is following you on Twitter?

1.  Sign in to your Twitter account.
2.  Click on your following section. It will say “following 591” or how ever many people you are following. See the screen shot below.
See Who Is Following You On Twitter
3.  A list of people you are following will show in the left column. See the screen shot below.
4.  Press on a person’s profile, and in the right column some details will appear.
5.  As you can see in the screen shot below, I have selected a person I am following to see if they are following me back. It shows that they are not following me because I cannot message them.
Following You On Twitter
6.  In the screen shot below, I have selected another person who is following me on Twitter. You will notice that the message button has appeared and I can direct message this person. this person happens to be Andy Bailey from the commentLuv website, who invented the commentLuv plug-in.

Notes on how to see who is following you on Twitter:

  • There is no point investigating your followers because they are already following you. This is why we click on the people that we are following to see who is following you back.
  • If you are interested in connecting with your followers simply go straight to that section.
  • Here’s another cool tutorial about Twitter: How to remove those annoying Twitter applications.
When you are using Twitter for business purposes it is important that you can see who is following you on Twitter.

Make Video Tutorials Easily

I've made 120+ free video tutorials on youtube all using free software. I have over 20,000 subscribers, and I'm now youtube partner. Here's what I use, and how you can do it too.

Screen Capture Videos Free with Camstudio

My prefered screen recorder is camstudio. It works on Windows, and Linux if using Wine. Here's a video tutorial on how to use it.

Embed:  Link: Watch Full Screen | Download

Recommended Video Codecs
xvid
FFDshow Tryouts
Divx
Recommended Audio Codecs
lame
Fraunhofer Radium MP3 codec
Known Issues
The audio and video length are slightly off. To fix, use a video editor to cut the last few frames from the video and save again. This only is a problem when combining multiple videos. The sync will be off.
Not a Glitch
Cannot screen record games or videos playing in media players. Camstudio is not a half-assed dvd to avi creator. Any program using using hardware acceleration "rendering" the screen will not work. read this. Use fraps to screencapture games.
Camstudio is slow: Lower your framerate or don't record fullscreen at super big resolutions. A video is basically 30 pictures per second + the time the codec takes to encode it.
Recommended Recording Settings for Youtube
Options
Go to Options -> enable autopan.
Set Autopan Speed to 80.
Audio Options
Audio: PCM, 44.1 kHz, mono, 16-bit
Final Audio after editing: MP3, 64kbps @ 22,050hz mono Abr or VBR
Video Options
Capture Frames every 33 milliseconds
Playback rate 30 frames per second
Video: xvid or divx at 256 or higher bitrate
Alternatives
Virtualdub: Does not have a feature similar to autopan. Movement is smooth, which is a bad thing as far as the codec is concerned.
Hypercam: Same as camstudio, but costs money.
Camtasia: Tons of features, costs assloads of money. Autopan waaayy too friggin slow. Tries to be a video editor and screencapture at the same time, making it kinda bloated.
Don't look for hacks or serials for the lastest versions. Even though I could buy commercial software camstudio works fine.

Edit your Videos Free with Virtualdub

Virtualdub is a super efficient, fast video editor for windows. As an alternative you cant try avidemux which works on linux, max and windows.

You will FAIL

Sorry as a new user to virtualdub your will fail at the following tasks. I've created a bunch of my own virtualdub tutorials on how to do various things.
  • Attaching videos together
  • Adding multiple audio tracks
  • Transitioning frames
  • Adding Pictures or stillframes to your video
  • Getting your videos to be small filesize
  • Trying to edit mp4, mkv, mov, wmv, 3gp.
  • Trying to add mp3 audio
